AfriGenetry Link is a nonprofit organization connecting heritage, health, and healing through DNA . We work to empower African and African diaspora communities through DNA and genomic health education, genealogy and family history, community engagement, prevention, research, workforce development, and culturally relevant programs.

We are looking for someone who wants to contribute to AGL’s mission while gaining meaningful nonprofit, communications, social media, and international team experience.

What You Will Do

The Social Media Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day management of AGL’s social media presence , not simply publishing posts.

Responsibilities will include:

• Manage AGL’s social media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, X, and YouTube , as assigned.
• Follow the organization’s approved social media strategy, content calendar, campaigns, and communications plan .
• Schedule and publish approved posts, reels, videos, stories, event promotions, educational content, and other materials on time.
• Write or refine captions, hashtags, calls to action, and platform-appropriate copy when needed.
• Monitor AGL’s social media accounts regularly rather than only logging in when something needs to be posted.
• Monitor comments, messages, mentions, tags, and community interactions and respond or escalate them appropriately.
• Engage appropriately with followers, partners, speakers, organizations, and relevant community accounts.
• Help promote AGL programs, webinars, campaigns, partnerships, Community DNA Pop Ups, and other initiatives.
• Coordinate with the Communications & Marketing team , graphic designers, video editors, leadership, and other team members to ensure content is ready and published as planned.
• Repurpose approved content appropriately across different platforms rather than treating every platform exactly the same.
• Monitor basic performance metrics such as reach, engagement, follower growth, views, clicks, and content performance.
• Identify content that is performing well and recommend improvements based on results.
• Stay aware of relevant trends and suggest appropriate content opportunities that align with AGL’s mission and professional image.
• Attend relevant team meetings and provide updates on social media activities, challenges, and upcoming priorities.
• Maintain AGL’s brand voice, professionalism, accuracy, and confidentiality across all platforms.
• Communicate early if a deadline, assignment, or responsibility cannot be completed rather than allowing tasks to go unattended.

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for someone who is proactive, dependable, organized, creative, and accountable .

Previous experience managing social media for a nonprofit, organization, business, personal brand, university group, or community initiative is preferred. Familiarity with tools such as Meta Business Suite, Canva, social media scheduling platforms, analytics tools, or similar platforms is beneficial.

Strong writing and communication skills are important, as well as the ability to work independently within a remote and international team.

Success in this role means that AGL’s social media accounts are consistently active, professionally managed, responsive, and aligned with the organization’s communications strategy .
